Foster + Partners’ Sydney office is located at 126 Phillip Street, which was designed by the practice and completed in 2005. The thirty-one-storey building is close to Sydney Harbour and situated within the city’s Central Business District.
Rooted in local communities, the international team attends and engages in topical sessions with industry peers, runs an active CPD group with lunchtime presentations, and organises site tours of its completed projects. They are active members of the Australian Institute of Architects, the Planning Institute of Australia, and the Property Council of Australia.
The practice has been present in Australia since 2002, completing a range of projects that include Deutsche Bank Place (126 Phillip Street), which explores strategies for flexible and column-free office space; Lumiere Apartments, designed as models of sustainable and high-density urban form; DUO Central Park, a mixed-use development that forms a key part of the Central Park masterplan; Salesforce Tower at Sydney Place, an office tower in the heart of the city that reinvigorates its surrounding urban precinct and makes a distinctive contribution to Sydney’s skyline; as well as Barangaroo and Gadigal stations for Sydney Metro.
In 2023, the Sydney studio initiated the ‘reflect’ stage of Foster + Partners’ Reconciliation Action Plan. The practice is committed to working alongside First Nations peoples, businesses and communities, and recognises its responsibility to always act in the spirit of respect and reconciliation. This is especially important given the work it does and the close association with the planning and design of the land.
