Following the launch of the X shelving unit and the Y conference table, Foster + Partners Industrial Design and UniFor have unveiled the Z desk at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2024. This is the final component of the modular XYZ office system, which seeks to deliver more agile and tailored workspaces. With a spring-assisted lift, the height of the sit/stand desk can be easily adjusted in one frictionless movement.
Mike Holland, Head of Industrial Design, Foster + Partners, said: “The Z desk completes the XYZ system, which has been designed to facilitate more flexible working within the office. The worktop can be tuned to the user’s requirements, with the very lightest of touches. Our shared aim was to create intuitive and smooth movement, without electronic actuators or crank handles.”
The desk has a patented spring and cam mechanism, housed within an aluminium frame, which maintains consistent tension to hold the worktop at any height. It can be adjusted quickly and efficiently by gently pulling or pushing the surface. The double-sided frame also accepts a range of materials, from acoustic fabrics to timber veneer.
The Z desk is not tethered by a power cable, meaning it can be moved and reconfigured with ease. Workstations can be placed alongside each other, to create a longer wall through the office, or stand alone for individual working.
Z desk is on view at the UniFor showroom at Viale Pasubio, 15, 20154 Milano MI, Italy.
