Over three decades since joining the practice in 1993, Stuart Latham’s role has evolved from designing to managing a global business. In 2023, he became Managing Partner, responsible for day-to-day operations and guiding Foster + Partners' direction. Stuart combines a deep understanding of Foster + Partners people and systems with extensive hands-on architectural experience. He studied architecture at Leicester and has worked across every stage of the design process. The experience gained through large-scale, complex transport projects has helped to shape his leadership of the practice, in both cases, his role involves uniting large teams, often spread across continents, with a common vision and purpose. Stuart understands the regional nuances of design and business having worked in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi to oversee construction of the mixed-use World Trade Center Souk comprising high-rise residential and commercial towers. To deliver this complex scheme, he strengthened the local team, quadrupling the employees in Foster + Partners’ Abu Dhabi office, and built enduring relationships with collaborators in the region. Having proven his commercial as well as design acumen, in 2015, he was promoted to lead the Management Group, expanding it from a small number of contract specialists to a comprehensive commercial division covering legal and project management teams. Throughout his career, he has brought together the people, resources and skills required to deliver projects at scale – a role, like Managing Partner, that demands collaborative leadership and the seamless integration of many disciplines to deliver a shared vision.
